So far, in the month of May, Tim has enjoyed 3 weeks of summer break (that's at least 3 trips to Six Flags!) and Faith has enjoyed 3 weeks of nursing school. This year for Faith's mom's birthday we decided to try something a little more hearty. So instead of the rose bush, we're going to try a giant geranium bush. Here's hoping it's a little less fragile! The first visitor for the plant was a handsome curious lil turtle.
Summer's keeping us busy but in our down time we go biking at our new favorite park around Creve Coeur Lake. We're looking forward to some visits with family and friends this summer. Hope you are well!
April 17th marked one year since my mother passed away. I can’t believe it’s been an entire year-slash- I can’t believe it’s been ONLY a year. It feels like it happened both yesterday and forever ago.
We tried to make the day meaningful with room for a little more heartache than usual. Saturday, we went to the lavender farm http://lavender.windingbrookestate.com/. Love it, recommend it, can’t wait to go back when the lavender is blooming. In their little shop we found a special candle to light on Sunday.
Sunday we enjoyed Starbucks, picking out a hanging flower basket, and I got a pedicure.I know that’s something my mom would have loved doing together!
After sunset we found the perfect river location near the cobblestone Main Street of Historic St. Charles and set off a couple of sky lanterns. Our pictures don’t capture the moment, but it was a really neat way for us to commemorate one year.
It’s an amazing season that seems to vary with each sunrise. Trees and flowers blooming, green grass appearing, longer days, five inches of snow, followed by a crisp sunny day. Weird, but I love it. I LOVE spring in St. Louis! It might beat my current favorite season (fall). This will be our third summer, but it's MY first spring here (figure THAT out...)
My heart aches, but I’m thankful for a joyful reminder to enjoy during a sad time…
Over the past week or so, I’ve had less focus and less energy than usual. This is especially inconvenient since it’s about six weeks until finals (that means about 6 weeks, plus one day until nursing school begins!). When my mind is wandering it’s usually to the dark, bittersweet memories of this time last year.
Because of my mild masochistic tendencies and need for details, I reviewed some of my journal entries from a year ago. I was in Fairbanks from late February through late April. I stayed with some family friends, while helping my family to care for my mother as she fought for the last days of her life. What I found in my venting/writing surprised me. Now, I’d be among the first to tell you that it was a difficult time, but the things I wrote to myself –about hating Fairbanks, deciding there was only a handful of lovely people there, and going so far as to curse Fred Meyer (blasphemy!) don’t reflect how I truly feel about the place or my long visit there. It was cathartic and validating to go back and "revisit" that time but I wish I had the energy or foresight to have been a little more positive.
While it was admittedly a difficult, painful, and exhausting time, I would do it all over again. No question.
If I had to do it over I would try to enjoy a Fairbanks spring just as much as I adore spring here.

well, not that surprising considering it was forecast to snow today, then be 70 by mid-week. weird.
Not quite the spring break start I had in mind...but it makes for a great day to stay in with a ready coffee pot while I try to be productive around the house.
One of my goals this year was to blog at least once a month. So far, we're on track...barely.
We're busy with work and school. We are both rocking our classes this semester, doing really well but already looking forward to spring break. Last weekend was pretty nice out so we enjoyed a bike ride at (a very crowded) Forest Park. It was the first of what we hope will be many rides this summer and maybe we'll remember to take some pics of upcoming rides.
Last night was one of the more exciting days of the month (for me anyway) as we got to meet THE Pioneer Woman again!! Tim got me her new book, "Black Heels to Tractor Wheels" for Valentine's Day and I got him the latest Call of Duty game. The irony of our gifts to each other is not lost on me.

I thought I'd be a little cooler meeting her this time. No luck. All I could muster was, "Thanks for coming to St. Louis!" I forgot to ask her about Black Heels, the movie. I think I'd be a great extra in the film. Just sayin'.
2010 was a tough, busy year we're just about ready to admit that the Christmas cards probably won't be going out this year.
Since our last post, Faith has turned 30, finished another semester (4.0, baby!), and wrapped up another temp job in the city. She's off work for now and hoping to focus only on school when classes resume in mid-January.
Tim watched Faith turn 30, (and laughed hysterically since she's now in the same age box as him!) as he plowed through another semester of school (straight A's for him, too!), and rocked the professional development aspect at work. He dreams daily of a home of our own and a dog to play with.
The Henry family was scheduled for a Mexican Riviera cruise over the Holiday, but it was canceled about one month prior due to a fire-damaged cruise ship. The Alaska Henry's came to St. Louis instead, and we made the most of it!
We toured the local Christmas lights, Ted Drewes, Budweiser, The Arch, enjoy watching the Blues win, and did lots of shopping. We conveniently avoided the big tornado that touched down near our neighborhood over New Year's Eve!
The real year-end finale happened in Indiana where Faith's dad got married on New Year's Eve. All the kids on both sides of the family were able to attend the intimate, home event.
We got to take my dad to see South Pacific at the Fabulous Fox Theater --he remembered many of the lines and most of the songs from when he participated in a production over 30 years ago in the Phillippines! Go Dad!
It was a fun time, and a good time was had by all. So good in fact, that we didn't stop to take any photos until well after the show was over.
We met in 2006 and married later that year in Alaska. We're transitioning from The Great North to the Mighty MO where Tim is beginning an exciting new career.
